About Time
The long-term viability of world
economies is heavily dependent on the availability of electricity and a
sustainable environment. Today’s global energy model relies
greatly on hydrocarbons which scientists believe is a major cause of
climate change. This energy model is not sustainable. Recent years have
seen the risks of fossil resource depletion: recurrent geopolitical
tensions, increasing energy dependence and volatile prices.
The
purpose of this section is to illustrate how the critical issues of
rising energy demand, volatility of fossil fuel prices, climate change
and security of supply are pointing towards a global transition away
from a hydrocarbon world to a more sustainable one.
